Facebook Simplifies Contest Rules and Provides Images for Ads

Facebook Makes It Easier to Run Promotions on Pages

You are no longer required to use third party apps to run contests, promotions, sweepstakes, and giveaways via a Facebook brand page. Facebook’s official announcement says:

Now, promotions may be administered on Page Timelines and in apps on Facebook. For example, businesses can now:

  • Collect entries by asking fans to post on the Page or comment/like a Page post
  • Collect entries by asking fans to message the Page
  • Use likes as a voting mechanism

As before, however, businesses cannot administer promotions on personal Timelines.

Of course, everyone has something to say about this change. Scott Ayres compiled pros and cons from 18 Facebook experts on the Post Planner Blog.

Need Images for Facebook Ads?

Shutterstock for Facebook Advertisershttps://www.facebook.com/facebookforbusiness/news/shutterstock-multiple-image-upload-page-manager

Facebook has partnered with Shutterstock (a popular stock image service)  to make over 25 million images available for use in Facebook ads. Sweet!

Shutterstock says:

“Facebook is offering the images to advertisers at no additional cost, and each time a Facebook advertiser licenses a Shutterstock image the Shutterstock artist will earn a royalty.”

Shutterstock will be integrated directly into the Facebook ad creation tool, where advertisers will be able to test multiple images—including their own photos, visuals from their previous ads, and professional stock images from Shutterstock—across Facebook’s mobile and desktop advertising products.

I’m so glad they changed these guidelines. I had heard nightmare stories of people having their fan pages shut down because of a technicality with these rules. Yet, you see people breaking them every single day. They don’t make it easy to keep up with their changes either. Thanks for sharing Laura!

Tonia – I did hear rumors that they loosened the rules because so many people were breaking them. Don’t know whether that’s true. Either way, it makes it frustrating for those of us who try to follow the rules. I’m glad they are trying to make some beneficial improvements, however.
