Guest blogging is a great way to drive traffic to your blog by building up quality backlinks and increasing your blog’s search-engine visibility. With millions of blogs active on the Internet, it can be difficult to know where to start to find those guest posting opportunities. Here are some tips for finding the best guest posting opportunities to promote your blog:

Blog Directories

Start by looking for blogs in your niche. You can look at blog directories like Networked Blogs or BlogHer, or you can look at SimilarSites.com. Getting links from similar sites will help your blog to rank higher for your keywords and content area.

Guest Posting Directories

Directories and forums exist for the purpose of connecting blog owners with others who are looking to guest post. Blogger Link Up and My Blog Guest are two popular sites for finding blog owners looking for guest posters. You’ll find a willing audience of bloggers looking for your services.

Check Backlinks and Blogrolls

Look at the competitors in your field, and take advantage of the research they have already done for guest posting opportunities. Where are they getting backlinks?

You can find this information through tools like Open Site Explorer or Majestic SEO. Look at those backlinks for places to guest post yourself. Next, look at their blog roll, and contact these sites for posting opportunities.

Google It

Google is the search-engine king that drives all of these marketing efforts. Use it to your advantage. Google popular phrases such as “write for us,” “call for guest bloggers,” “guest blogging opportunities” and more to find sites looking for guest bloggers.

Not only will you find opportunities to write, but you’ll also find blogs that are ranking high to give you the most potential traffic. You can also google your own target keywords to find other blogs in your niche, and then contact those blog owners for posting opportunities.

Finding guest posting opportunities takes the same kind of targeted research that you used to build up traffic to your blog, including looking for the right keywords. Look for other blogs in your field and take advantage of directories and forums to find opportunities for guest posting.

I found a new site, http://thinged.com that lets you post articles in many different niches. I posted one article there so far because it seems like a good idea that might catch on. I bet there are other similar sites out there too.
