An Easy Way to Offer Your Blog Articles for Reprint

Posted July 28, 2010 | Laura Christianson

People who manage others’ blogs — whether on a voluntary or paid basis — constantly troll the internet in search of industry-related articles they can reprint.

If you’ve been blogging for a while and have a nice selection of posts in your archives, consider offering some of them for reprint.

I do this and it works like a charm.

Recently, I was contacted by the blog manager for the Northwest Christian Writers Association (of which I am a member). She’d been browsing my blog, discovered one of my “for reprint” articles, and e-mailed me to request the HTML code for the post, my bio, and my headshot.

Because of space considerations on their blog, she slightly revised and excerpted from my original article, “The three best, all-time tips for increasing your blog’s readership.”

She e-mailed me her revision for my approval, which I thought was considerate of her. Here’s the version that was republished on the NCWA blog.

Your turn!

  1. Cruise through your blog’s archives — right now — and select two posts you will make available for reprint. Add a blurb to the end of those posts.
  2. Don’t just wait for a random Web surfer to discover your “for reprint” posts. Publish a fresh post on your blog that includes a 1-2-sentence teaser for each post, along with a link to each.
  3. Contact associations, non-profits, and/or fellow bloggers in your area of interest and offer those posts for reprint.
  4. Write back and share how it works for you!

P.S. If you’re looking for a vibrant, growing association for emerging and professional writers (all genres), I recommend the Northwest Christian Writers Association. The group meets monthly (Monday nights) during the school year in Bothell, WA.

I have never considered offering my posts for reprint. It's an intriguing idea although I'm not sure exactly how to find places that would be right for my unique, off-beat style. I write about trying to navigate business in this current insane economic climate — but with humor. Do you have any suggestions on where someone like me could look?

  7. Kay – You might check local “alternative” publications. Most large cities publish at least one daily (or weekly) newspaper that's more edgy than the mainstream publications. That might be a good fit for your style. There are also many edgy news websites that might be interested.

You could consider adapting your blog articles, too. If the publication or website you submit a post to for reprint is more conservative than your typical style, you can usually tone down the piece so it fits their style better.

Readers, can you offer additional suggestions to Kay?

I am one of those people you are discussing. I am currently looking for blogs to post on my site authored by other experts and have been looking for some time for info. regarding seo, sem, email marketing, blogging, behavioral banner ads, advertising & marketing. I wish I could locate a reprint site like a pr newswire for blogs that includes feeds so I can post a string of blogger news on my site.
